Sugar High

Last night we went out to dinner and Barnes & Noble with the Navarros.  Leilani and Rubie had ice cream cones for dessert.  Immediately after finishing their treat, they were bouncing off the walls and squealing like little banshees. We had to take them outside to run around and burn off some of their sugar high before we went to story time at B & N.

You make me laugh

Leilani makes us laugh out loud at least once every day.  Here are a few of her recent gems...

Mommy:  "Leilani, can you come help Mama put away your laundry please?"
Leilani: "But Mama, that's YOUR job?"
Mommy: "If they're your clothes, why do you think putting them away is Mommy's job?"
Leilani: "Because Mama. It's your job to do the laundry, and wash the dishes, and do the cleaning, and make my dinner, and go to work."
Mommy:  "Well then what are Daddy's jobs?"
Leilani:  "Daddy's job is to go to work and to sleep."
Mommy:  "Leilani, you and I need to have a long talk."

A caterpillar eats a lot, then crawls into his RACCOON and goes to sleep.  When he wakes up he's a butterfly.

Leilani:  "That lady's tummy is HUGE because she has a baby in there."
Then after a long look at me with her head cocked to one side, "Mommy.  Do you have a baby in your boobs?"
Mommy: "Sigh"

Mother's Day with Grandma Linda

The weekend after Mother's Day we had lunch with Grandma Linda.  As always, Grandma and Leilani had a ball together.
Please notice Leilani's new earrings.  Her father has talked her out of getting her ears pierced ("Leilani, why would you want someone to stab you with a sharp needle just for jewelry?"), so Aunt Callie got her some new stick-on earrings.  They're really cute, but she likes to take them off and stick them other places on her body.  Yesterday, she had a "pierced" forehead and shoulder.

Not exactly what I had in mind

Today Leilani is "cooking" in her play kitchen.  She told me she was going to put on her apron so she wouldn't get any "food" on her clothes.  A few minutes later she came back wearing her apron...
and not much else!
I never see Martha Stewart or Paula Deen dressed like this in the kitchen.
She's just such a silly little thing!!

Lemon Festival

Today, Leilani and I went to the Lemon Festival in Downtown Upland. She of course couldn't wait to go on the rides.  I was pretty selective because I'm a bit skeptical about those carnival rides.

We started off with her first pony ride.  I don't like them because the poor ponies always look so pitiful.  But she begged to go on it.  When Mike saw the pictures of her on the pony, he said he was very proud of me for overcoming my fear of letting Leilani touch a carnival animal.  (Of course I practically bathed her in hand sanitizer after the ride was over!)
Then we moved on to the Bumblebee ride that she liked so much she went on it TWICE.
We finished off the day on the Motorcycle Merry-go-round.  She loved it, but was a little bit sad because she remembered going on this ride last year with Rubie.  After the ride was over she said, "I miss Rubie.  Let's go home."
Even with the pony ride, carnival attractions, and yummy treats, the highlight of Leilani's day at the Lemon Festival was when we bumped into her preschool teacher there.  She was so excited to see her beloved Miss Alice outside of school.  I hope she will always love school and her teachers as much as she does now.

The wall of purple flowers

On the drive home from school everyday we pass a neighborhood where there is a wall of glorious purple flowers.  And everyday Leilani and I point out of pretty it is.  Today I grabbed my camera and we went over to snap a few shots in front of the purple flower wall.
